Everything but Weakness
By Larry Chadwick
Peace dear friend

Withheld for so long
your pain erupted
and bruised my heart.

Tears blended
both
by your agony
and
my failure to know.

Sometimes it’s pictures,
other times
a note.
Always –
unexpected.

Tears
not yet familiar
with the loss of you.

Tunes of recall,
grandpa in church,
us courting,
favorites you shared.

Tears of emotion,
also devotion,
even adoration.

The pleasure
of your accomplishments.

Tears inspired
by the milestones
of school,
of marriage,
of divorce
and employment
even
healing.

As a friend of mine once said,
“tears aren’t always about weakness”.
Friend…they seldom are.

September 28, 2004

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

When a friend comes along
whether in health
or illness...

there is a reason and season
of connection.

Even when we miss the boat.

I have often connected with others,
such as himself, Mark Twain....

so it was a wonderful experience to know
Holbrook, himself, as a character he has
represented for over 50 years, as Twain...

and the fact that Michael's essence lingers,
is truth itself, that we have a host who will
not allow us to die, and we will live on, in
some perpetuity...in grace, and love,
and remembrance.

Thank you, Larry, for caring about someone you didn't know a whole lot about, but cared to learn of, through time.

Tenderstrong. One word, you know? Yeah, you know. I'm glad you reposted it. Flowing and as touching as tears are, fresh, and always warm for those we care for.

Love,
reg

James,
And thank you.

Ah Karilea,
And yet it is preferable to be the one remembering. Our writing helps to carry our essence. I still think of his son and his loss and wonder how they are doing. Thank you.

MGROVES,
Thank you so much.

passing shadows,
It truly is a fond memory.

Martie,
I knew you would know...

Nancy Lee,
Thanks I'll take it.

steavenr,
I appreciate that. Thanks.

Reg,
Thanks. How I appreciate your response and understanding.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

This piece just grabbed me, I actually heard myself *gasp* at the scope of it.

Thank you for re-posting this beautiful tribute.
