Survival

I am the ‘rock of ages’ seen,
where mans feet fall but nought is seen.
I stand the hardest of them all,
that none defeat in life’s long toil.

Exposed and bare on hilltop high,
where winds howl loud and spirits cry,
eroding plants and all that strive
to fight with nature to survive.

The cold stone memories always there,
where all but me die in despair.
My presence says “you can live on,”
when all you knew is dead and gone.

Ivor G Davies

The moment created this second, is a  moment that's going to last.
It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past.

You are the rock of ages with the wisdom of the sages.

A fine piece of writing! ~ Vintage 'Ivor-y'!

Something I have written about many times.
I feel the stone is the alter of our prayers.

Thank you all for your responses, this was one of my earlier poems and based on a series about rocks.  Originally entitled granite relating loosly to the wetherswept and bare mountain top of Scaefaell Pike which I have strugled to on many occasion.(Highest Peak in England)

Obviously related also to life, but like you Seymour, I feel power in stone, it appears to link us into the universe.

This is the only series I have had trouble with titles on as I never know whether to lean towards the rock or the universe...
(I suppose this leaves me between a rock and a hard place!)

Ivor
