I understood his argument
that life, one life
makes much more sense
if someone gave you so much stuff
and told you
"Make the best of it
for it is all you'll ever get--
there is no 'spin again'".

I nodded thinking
it would be fair
if we were born of equal means
7.5 lbs at birth and intellect of parity--
but we know that just ain't so--
it's why we count fingers and toes
praying that no bad things grow
in the virgin fields to yield
some evil unexpectedly
where roses ought to be.

I nodded thanks to one more drink
although I'd had too much to think
as he continued his tirade
"What would the incentive be
if we could come back again
to try, to try, to try again
as if we were a game?"

He drank his scotch faster than I--
and slammed his empty purposefully
ready for another round.
I wasn't there to see his eyes--
I took my purse and fled the scene,
smiling at the circlings,
of intense philosophy
insistant singularilty
happy
homeward bound.

I am such a fan of your interesting and thoroughly entertaining tales.

I like to exit before the scream of "last call" sounds in the bar. *wink wink*

always seeking joy, adventure and romance and wishing you find the same

You took a common conversation and turned it into something new and interesting. I liked it.

Thank you for sharing your poem.

Many a night I would have THE best thoughts....weaving through my brainpan, even as I was weaving on the pavement

some days, I pray there is no do overs..

You and me baby...when this "stuff" is over and fixed, you and me...slamming a few down and talking about everything.  I'm going to come there to do it..

Your extended vocabulary combined with your creativity puts a delightful spin on even a most disgusting scene. You are remarkable, Karen.

and the echoes of "Hey, I'm right!  Get back here and I'll prove it!" faded into...

Don't think I would have wanted to be there to see the eyes either.
