Like bark to a tree I stick to my view
though it withers away in the sun
unrelenting in an everyday rise
that threatens a coming undone.

So stands this view unable to kneel
to the bear-down of a strong hand
laid hard and most unforgiving
on the head of a gentle woman.

Rise, oh sun, rise up and burn
there is heart that resists the feel
and the blister and pucker result
a slight and surface testimony.

No matter the place where everyone stays
trees are as different as you and me
bound same to ground but reaching for sky
and letting the shade fall free.

And each/every tree under the heat
filters the pain to make the shade
for viewpoints to sprout and spread
into a strange and mystical glade.

But the bark of a view undone by you
stubbornly sticks when it is true!

"filters the pain to make the shade
for viewpoints to sprout and spread"

The analogy in this piece goes deeper than just the "surface testimony."  I could feel "the pain" with a hope for "shade."

Interesting write, well done Helen, enjoyed.

always seeking joy, adventure and romance and wishing you find the same

Exquisite poem! Loved this! I like to write with symbolism of nature too. This is an all around, wonderful poem.

Helen, when words turn into pictures and imagination comes into play, the poem is special, I read it twice and enjoyed each time, thank you for sharing my friend.
