rapid rewards

rushing to gate thirty-eight
heels strike wet treacherous tile
arriving to discover
a surprisingly short line

going through security
had become a mundane chore
stripping away all layers
striving to stop terrorists

the blonde's red cowl necked sweater
traveled outward as she stooped
to remove black knee-high boots
flashing pale skin to strangers

the officer's silver badge
sparkled as did his wry smile
anticipating his swift
signal to single her out

he stood silently starring
longing for a self-guided tour
while his female coworker
performed the routine pat-down

once released she said to him
don't you just love this airline
you racked up rapid rewards
and you never left the ground

Readers PLEASE NOTE:

Please know that this piece was meant to add humor to a subject that is NOT funny.

I know that TSA officers have a tough job, one in which I honestly appreciate, and the practice of "profiling" passengers to determine whether they pose a security risk is often times too politically correct.

I do NOT fit the profile - blonde and very fair.

I think there is no room left for blind politically correct procedures that ignore this reality — our wonderful country does have enemies.  And I want the FAA to focus their efforts on improving security in a balanced and rational manner that is open to public scrutiny and consistent with  our constitutional rights.

But most of all I want us all to fly SAFE.

Janette~
I thought the piece was adorable, cute and humorous too~

It simply underscores the fact that even such a serious job, as air safety, can and does, have it's perks~

and all that is exciting that happens when I take my shoes off at the airport is the sudden arrival of the Dr. Scholl's patrol, and when I am not wearing socks...a polite averting of the eyes at such a sad sight...

you capture the utter innovation of man's experiences, both good and bad
how would you have liked to have been in Phila Airport yesterday?  The kiosks were not working and people who were flying with US Air, missed their flights?

Fantastic write...
