Disappearing Act

Many, many years ago,
the whole world was alive.
It shimmered and rustled,
as age old secrets were reveled.
Seas of aqua blue,
hills of emerald green,
proud trees standing tall,
and stars in velvet skies.

In the present things have changed a bit,
the whole world still struggles on.
It no longer shimmers nor rustles,
and age old secrets are now kept.
Seas are filled with garbage,
hills flattened to make malls,
trees are only firewood,
and smog covers stars in pitted skies.

Many, many years from now,
the whole world is now dead.
Shimmers and rustles are now long gone,
and there's not a secret to be heard.
The seas have all dried up,
hills have disappeared,
children ask what trees are,
and all stars have fallen to the ground.

Within the sound of silence...

I didn't read this before posting my own poem, but it seems we're on a similar mind-meld.  Wonder what caused yours?

Mine was written, because I saw it, first hand.

Well done, poet.
