When the ship comes
beautiful by day
break into celebration
remorse for ones detained
in the night
within view of city light
like San Fran hills
hug coast lines
paths ferret crests
in harboured bays
arrested that morn
tortured thorn
when the deck fills
break into consolation
who is amiss
the ship sails
ghostly routes
the navy never knows
no record of ship arrival
noctural plan
detainee ran the deck
a nightly speck.

but they say her name
will be cleaned
barely have time to
wipe the deck
of the red...
the uniforms are out
again polished brass
celebrates a voyage
but records stick
in harboured bays.
