Ghost Riders

On a hot night in the desert
my camel seemed restless,
while I layed out my bed
next to a dried up riverbed,
in a remote oasis.
Off in the distance I
heard swords a clashing,
across the dried up riverbed,
many horses were dashing.
As I pulled my trusty guns
out of their cases, a
hundred riders and horses
stormed into the oasis.
I wanted no part of this fight,
perhaps a settling of water rights.
Before me a battle waged
as if I didn't exist.
Swords and heads were
coming together, and body
parts were flying amiss.
When I awoke in the morning
no evidence of a battle remained,
well there did seem to be one thing.
The water in the well had
turned an oozing blood red,
full of the nectar of
lost limbs and heads.

Wow, James, this is different from the other poems that I have read by you.  I like it a lot -- a lot lot.

Aren't you a poet full of surprises! I see that you are a raconteur as well! Compelling read!

Wow!  What an interesting dream, it made me feel rather "restless" as the descriptive story continued to unfold.  And then in the end the reader is greeted with a surprise ... and I do love surprises.

Entertaining write.  Enjoyed the imagery even if it made me cringe a bit at that blood and guts stuff.

Most enjoyable James!

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.
