I Turn To Stone

I used to be passionate...

like waterfalls to rivers flowing
like the open sky filled with sun-
giving life to all things growing
peaceful in the tasks I'd done.

But the days became angry...

resentment came heavy as a death
brewing spirit of hate and discontent-
to swallow bitter taste with each breath
within turmoil of each day I spent.

And they wonder why some people snap...

so distorted from battles fought
weak forces fall, left to fight alone-
I couldn't allow myself to get caught
in inner insanity, so I turn to stone.

Dixie,

I liked this, but I feel it would be stronger without the explanations.  It's a poets role in writing poetry of this nature to get the reader to absorb the words, ponder on them and take away an understanding.

Your poetry is powerful enough and written in a way that achieves this, we should be accompanying your journey within our own minds.  If the reader is not capable of that, with work that is this good, the poetry would be wasted on them anyway!

a heart as gentle as yours will never turn to stone~ as the ones that hurt us~

My spirit will rise
above the sea~
There will be no drowning
of my soul or me~

I love the way you put this together--and I must confess, you had me at the title.

This is something I have been wondering about myself--I have rheumatoid arthritis--and it certainly FEELS like I am turning to stone. And you wrote the poem for me too, because I wondered if I was just becoming dead to emotions that had previously pained me.

I guess I'll never know unless I get brave enough to try to resurrect them, yes?

love to you Dix

you wrote a mindfield

I felt the intensity of this retort ... *snap* ... and I adored the way you layed this out for it increased the vigorous spirit of this piece.

Excellent write.

Your poetry is so powerful because it is so honest and open.  You share the emotions that tumble inside you --- and I get swept along with you.  I care because you give us part of you with each word you write.

You are beautiful.

Siyo PassingShadows,I understand the protecting of the heart and soul but little sister if we stand aside too long we forget the greatest gift of all. Even the pain of life is a gift of lessons, without them we can not teach the next generations!

Dear Dixie, I have a stone which I carry with me everyday, it is my gratidude stone; each day I feel it and think of all the things that I am truly gratful for. Give it a try my friend, it does help each day. I will now think of you as well. Don't allow yourself to turn hard and cold Dixie, you have too much in this life to give and share, put your past behind and begin today, we will all help you, for you are special as well. You may be the stone in my pocket, but you are warmed there with friendship.
Have a wonderful day and smile heaps.

Sincerely
Rick
