(This is a new song I wrote today after feeling very reflective recently, coping with feelings of loneliness as I try and find new social outlets in Portland, and sentimentally reflecting on my old friends from Colorado for comfort and warmth as I go through these days feeling like an alien on the college campus.)

Sojourning On Every Heartbeat
By: Noah Eaton

.
.
.
Reflecting back on my hometown…
.
…hot summer days in Club Crest Park,
afternoon jogs around Crown Hill Lake,
Harvest Lane’s where I had bunked down…
.
…all the adventures I had as a boy,
in the greenway behind my house,
oh how…
.
how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
oh how…
.
…how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
.
.
I remember the first day…
.
…I sat in the original Denver Academy,
back on Race and Mississippi,
playing Yussel in “Fiddler on the Roof”…
.
…stretching on the green,
with the cross-country team.

I still have this flying feeling,
reflecting back on my scrapbook,
where my memory’s reeling,
and I feel like I’m in my mind’s backseat,
when sojourning on every heartbeat…

…sojourning on every heartbeat…
.
.
.
.
.
Reflecting back even further…
.
…on all four seasons in Boulder,
golden banner blanketing the Flatirons,
double rainbows over Sawhill Ponds…
.
…silvery lupines glistening in Chautauqua Meadow,
where the yucca moths sibilate soprano clef,
oh how…
.
how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
oh how…
.
…how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
.
.
…the early morning alpenglow…
.
…all upon the Pearl Street Mall,
where Bongo the Balloon Man,
lights another child’s face,
where Kenneth Lightfoot aims…
.
…and throws another playing card,
from the street corner to the top of the roof…

Suddenly my heart feels tied in loop knots,
like that busker Mitford fitting,
into his twenty-inch Plexiglos Box,
and I can smell the aromas of the Dushanbe Teahouse,
sojourning on every heartbeat…

…sojourning on every heartbeat…
.
.
.
Like a leafless cottonwood tree,
against a winter sunset…
.
.
…the silhouette of each memory,
projects there in my head…
.
.
I’d ditch class every now and then,
just to hike the Cherryvale Trailhead…
.
.
every ride on the B-Line home,
I left behind something unsaid…
.
.
.
.
.
My memories reach a cathartic pitch,
standing on the podium in my graduation outfit,
it can feel very lonely when everyone you know,
is sitting there in your field of view,
literally fought back the tears,
every second through,
oh how…
.
how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
OH HOW…
.
…how it feels just like yesterday…
.
.
.
Still I get this overemotional feeling,
reflecting back on my scrapbook,
where my memory’s reeling,
whenever I’m alone, I beat this retreat,
sojourning on every heartbeat…

…sojourning on every heartbeat…
…sojourning on every heartbeat…

…sojourning on every heartbeat…

…sojourning on every heartbeat…
.
.
.

What a lovely "reflection" of your hometown.
This made me think about places I have lived in my past and how sometimes it "feels like yesterday" still.

Enjoyed.

Damn...  and I mean that in the best way possible.  That was completely you, whoever you are... you put it there in black and white.  That was really inspiring.
