A homeless man in the corner,
Another on the street,
A woman and her children sleeping by a door.

I see them every day,
I see them through jaded eyes,
Because society’s taught me this way.

I want to do something for them,
I want them to be helped,
But I can’t just do it alone and on a whim.

Will you help me?
Will you contribute?
Will you make for them a place to sleep?

I want to,
I wonder what stops me.
Maybe society has to want to help, too.

A homeless man in the corner,
Another on the street,
A woman and her children sleeping by the door.

rachael, i feel your desire to do what our minds tell us not to do...alas, it is easier to avert our eyes than to lend a hand...and as you say, "society has taught" us all "this way" and so it will continue...good write about a subject folks would rather not talk about...we all need this kind of write...
