saw the elk in tender stream of spring
standing elegantly as statue still
eyes meeting eyes as if to rendezvous
nature’s beast to nature’s child

and crossing the tepid tide, I stopped
to meet the interloper face to face
sinewy, strong, and lithe he gazed
beyond the stream into my soul

and spoke in volumes silent, yet
volumes unmistakable, to soothe
and I crossed into a knowledge new—
he crossed, his eyes departed

into a denizen of forever forest silence

Such peace imparted, eyes to eyes.
Perfect description of nature's beast to nature's child.
Thanks for writing this.
