thought it was you standing there
so close, so resolute, so strong
thought it was you standing there
alas, ‘twas a foretaste of longing

imagined in the crevasses of fantasy
captured on the photo-plates of mem’ry
drawn in the substance of hope
painted on the canvasses of fancy

thought it was you standing there
in shadows plain and thoughts sublime
thought it was you standing there
alas, dark clouds…not silver-lined

conjured on the tables of the heart
illumined by pure desire
engraved on tablets of reflection
enlightened by the glow of your essence

thought it was you standing there
…thought it was you

This speaks to me of a longing for an old lover to return. It's deep, and loving, yet hurt at the same time. All in all, I like it.

"alas, ‘twas a foretaste of longing"

I enjoyed the anticipation of this heart felt lament.

always seeking joy, adventure and romance and wishing you find the same
