Surround Sounds

it is after a harsh day
and I am too old for
jangled nerves ragged
having dropped all at
anyone’s beck and call
all having come, collect,
and my pockets are
worn and empty

and it is after
such a day
when I come into
the face of a grizzly grumble
for he, too, has had his day

but when he spies me
he stops, and something
somehow, quiets him,

I am not sure what,

when he makes all the
jangled nerves
disappear,
then gathers me in,
with husky sounds of

welcome home, little girl

and I am surrounded,
smoothed
by love sounds.

I'll sleep tonight dreaming of a grizzly grumble -- I really enjoyed your poem.  Thank you.

Love your title and how it works within your poem.  Those "welcome homes" make it all worthwhile.  Here's hoping the days ahead will be less nerve jangling.

another for the library...thanks...

Enjoyed. The title brought me in as I can not stand surround sound! It does indeed "jangle the nerves". I do not need to watch a movie or television with noise coming from every direction. It would be so refreshing to have a quiet, gentle hand to come home to. And a quiet home would be nice too. best to you, martyjo

Fourth read, fifth? I don't know....time to tell you how much this poem moves me, find a way to say, but how? Again, I don't know....but you do, of that at least, I am certain.

I too am enchanted
by this "grizzly grumble"
who says
welcome home, little girl

he will always see
the girl he fell in love with
and who holds his heart

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
