Written for a lady I met at a flower show.
Only spoke with her for 5 minutes.....something unusual about her I thought.
This poem was the result of that meeting!

                 EARTH MOTHER

“Twas late in November two thousand and one.
The last day of Ellerlie Show had begun;
‘Midst flora and fauna, I chanced upon there
A salient lady with fly-away hair.

Sylph-like, yet noble, she bore many years
Of countless frustrations and copious tears.
Through deepest emotion and arduous fight
Her dignity shone like a star in the night.

An earth-mother, she, and all nature her child
She mourns for the loss of what man has defiled.
Each wrongly felled tree, and the rape of the land
Compounds the infraction ‘gainst God’s mighty hand.

A hippie, perhaps, in her formative years?
How strikingly beautiful now she appears!
As if, somewhere down in the depths of her soul
She still sees her planet untainted and whole.

Rest easy, sweet lady, your numbers are few.
Your God will redeem, for He dwells within you.
Majestically mirrored in all that you are;
You suffer the sorrow…. let Him bear the scar.

It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

sometimes we meet someone that we can write about, and beautifully

I guess I need to get out more often

Is there any way you can find her again,
and gift this to her?

And that last line...is wonderful!

Fantastic write and rhyme...loved the entire poem, but this reminded me of how we just create our very own protective worlds..and it certainly shows, the happiness, the ability to almost will a better planet...

sighs...oh if only, yanno...(they should make it manditory to take lessons from this lady)  No wonder you were smitten...

Rod,

Some connections are deeper than the mere physical and I think you have shown this in your poetry.
