“Nobody’s ever written a poem for me.”
She pinches me for added motivation as her smile wraps the moment around us.  The corners of the room round to crystal and we shrink into her hands.  Her lips purse and gently blow our moment skyward.  It stalls and feathers down slowly into my lap a few days later, as I try to make good on it.
We have many moments now.  I am looking for my favorites, blindly fishing through memory with the tongue-out concentration of a teetering boy on the edge of his toy chest, threatening to fall.  I scoop up a Sunday morning and hold it to eye level.  It smells like syrup and coffee as it rolls over the wrinkles of my palm.  It is soft like sweat pants and jersey sheets; bright from snowfall and her smile beneath sleepy brown eyes.  I let it roll off my fingers and grab another; paper-rock-scissors becomes tears of laughter; and her smile.
Another.
A kitchen slow-dance in silence.  Her smile.
Another.
Bermuda Sand.
Wet Pool felt.  Her smile.
Salty Emergency Room tears.
Dorm room wine.
Her smile.

I hold each for a moment, as each holds me, before placing it gently aside in search for another.  One by one they grow beside me, strewn and shimmering in rhythm with each other.  In an instant, the moment encases itself in perfect clarity, joining the pulsing glow of serenity as the words write themselves:

I already have all I’ll ever need.
I love you Sam.  Happy Valentines Day.  Thank you for filling up my chest.

This will endure, for memory alone.

Kevin, so good to see you.  Welcome home!
