In Aimless Wander
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

A blustering gale blew down from the north,
Flagrant winds whipped the warmth from inside.
My life force was ebbing and slipping away,
As well as my hope, faith, and pride.

I had set out to seek my good fortune and fame,
Having left the confinements of home.
I craved adventure and a new way of life,
So I left my safe haven to roam.

My escapades were quite exciting at first,
They were glittering, novel and new.
I was vital, young, free ~ and invincible,
And had many a dream to pursue.

I eventually met up with the Devil,
Who appeared in the guise of a man.
My good senses were lost ~ and morals were tossed,
~ That's when all my troubles began.

We were always in perpetual motion,
Green grass never grew ‘neath our feet.
All that we owned were the rags on our backs.
~ His promises had been lies of deceit.

We never did find the proverbial gold,
That he claimed lie around the next bend.
He abandoned me on that ‘yellow brick road’,
~ I was alone without family or friend.

But nor’westers continued to beat me down,
I was penniless and had no place to go.
I was aimless, bewildered, and lacking in hope,
For the Devil had devoured my soul.

I searched for a shelter, but none did I find,
As I trekked across fields of ice.
I was lost and alone ~ and longing for home,
~ My wandering had come with a price.

“Happiness is a state of mind.
Think happy! ~ Be happy!”

A most excellent write here lovely Linda.
With a lesson contained therein.
Most excellent indeed.

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

Shame on the Devil!  Thinking you'll write him and his misery out of your life.

A masterful art you have in mind and hand to fingertips and text.
Greatly expressed.
(But sad)…

Hug to ya!

Hello, Nice Nancy!

As I was writing this poem (that came suddenly  out of left field ), I was reminded of the title of the book by Erma Bombeck, "The Grass Is Greener Over the Septic Tank" ~
Fortunately, I was very young when I realized  the truth behind those words ~ which fortunately kept me out of trouble! lol

Giving you a warm hug on this frigid day!

happens so often Angel Linda
you need a guardian angel of your own
to keep those devils away...

I love this

EA,

Oh, how I love your poetry!  Somehow or other, I think that most of us feel like we've fallen off the track at one time or another.  Sometimes when I've been in that aimless wandering mode, others demonstrate their trust, hope, faith, and love of life that I lacked.  In doing so, they provide an inspiration and fuel.  (You have done just this many times for me!  Thank you so much, Linda!)

Mistakes can be a good thing, depending upon how we learn from them or use them.  NO ONE SHOULD TRY to make mistakes, but sometimes, they just happen before we know it!  One of the best things about making mistakes in art, I think, is they show me in great detail what I DON'T WANT!  And sometimes... I am in awe of how a messed up canvas can transform into an unexpected piece of beauty through positive thinking and determination.

Just wanted to stop in and tell you how I adore this poem.  Matter-of-fact, I think I'll take it to the library right now.  It sure has been nice to spend a little time on this "snow day" with you.  Often,I think about you and my friends on the Blue Pages.  Wish I could spend more time here...

hugs and hugs,
miscellanea

A truly lovely write, Linda!  No devil would dare get hold of you!  Wish we had snow days here so I could read more poetry but that wouldn't help either with a computer that has resigned on me.

Miss C ~

As you are 'librarying' my poem, I am 'librarying' your phenomenal response!

What a fine teacher ye be! Your students are very fortunate.

~ " I share with them how that painting had been transformed through problem solving and my attitude adjustment.  I try to challenge them to make something from their mistakes."

I appreciate you sharing your story. It had depth and an understanding and was very touching. Thank you!

May this Valentine's Day be a happy one for you!

Loving hug and smile,

Hi, Helen! I wondered where the dickens you have been! So sorry to learn that your puter has "resigned" on you! That's the pits!

I appreciate you reading and responding ~ especially with your limited resources!

Hi, Sweet Sue! In actuality, I've never been much of a wanderer. I prefer the safety and comforts of hearth and home. Besides, I'm a bit of a scaredy cat! lol
