I met Emmitt Smith once.

He came out of his hotel room
in nothing but boxers
and gold chains.

I should have remembered the exact date
but I don't.

He was short...

not like as big as I thought he'd be
from seeing him on TV.

Funny how things in life
are never what they seem.

Yeah...I know who you are...
doesn't everybody?

nice sis. In the end nobody knows who anyone really is. Only those who can look into the darkness and still accept themselves for all they are really knows who they are.

PS,

Now this is very good . . .
I would like with your permission
to add this to my Word File of poems
by others; generations later if those
files survive and they need to bother
the readers can look up who you were
talking about.

What name should I attach to it?

Again Very Good.

John

PS

Read it again and my opinion has changed;
it is magnificent!  Bravo!

I met Farrah Fawcett once on the Queen Mary in Long Beach.  She was wearing much more than Emmitt...James

Now, there y'go, passing around names of famous celebrities.

I met Hoss as a young child in my own home-town park.  He was doing some political stumping for some candidate.  He was huge...

and if I remember correctly, I cried when he died only a few years later.

I met a few celebrities in the Brown Derby when my aunt and grandmother treated me like a young princess in 1968...thank you, Uncle Miltie.

Sat in the front row at the Drury theater, one of Chi-town's "where's it at" places to be for original folk artists...and was kissed on the cheek by Roy Clark, back in the early 1980's.

Got hugged by all of the Sawyer Brown band members, just after their Star win, just before they boomeranged to the top.  That inbetween humble is nice...

Met Garrison Keillor, and handed him a copy of my book....

Oh Dixie, thank you so much for the memories!!!

[Yep, didn't meet him, but saw Bob Hope in person, right here in Salina, Kansas...just a year or so before he passed on.]

thanks   I enjoyed the sharing of memories!

it was years ago, before Hurricane Ivan, we worked security at the hotel across from the Civic Center where all the famous people stayed when they came into town. So happened that Emmitt's car alarm was going off as we veiwed the parking lot from CCTV. So I went out to check on it. One of Emmitt's employees was trying to fix it and as I was talking to him, a voice came over the two-way radio..."look behind you"

(that was my fellow officer watching the cameras and saw Emmitt head out the door)...

there he was...in boxers and bare feet and gold chains...

Actually, I wasn't even really sure if it was him or not at first.

It was strange to see him alone...with no one around him. But it was the middle of the night and I suppose even famous people are alone sometimes. And to stand next to him, and be almost the same height...was really strange.

I stuck out my hand and said "Hi, I am Dixie" and he shook it and said "Hi, I am Emmitt".

Made me think about the perceptions that we have in life

Dixie,

Done,
and thank you.

If I haven't done it before,
e-mail me and I'll send you the Word files
I spoke of; so you can see what company
your poem keeps.
