In an upside-down garden

Flowers springing up from the words that you
are bringing always sweetly singing songs for
the girl in your photographs, she will stare back
from the puddle in your sink, and the walls are
dripping paint from all the words you couldn't say

Please, don't whisper to me when I am trying
to sleep, toes curled up, you always buckle my
knees when your words, they don't mean,
they don't mean anything to me.

Eyes closed, counting steps and walking backwards,
toward the ledge, toward the steps, toward the falling
water rushing through the plastic paper cup that she
is holding in her frail, fragile hand, you will stand in her
way, doesn't make a difference, doesn't matter much

Please, don't scream when I tell you I cannot stay, there
is too much to do, you've got too many words to
say to other people, they don't mean anything,
you don't mean anything to me.
