I see so clearly now,
What in my youth I failed to see
When, besotted with youth's frailties,
My only concern was pleasing...me
My toys were surely mine,
No sharing occurred to me
Despite my mother's warnings
That she would punish me
My siblings were a trial to me,
Always getting in my way,
No matter how hard I prayed to God
They were here on earth to stay!

No longer a child...now living life...
I found one word to be the key
For I had found true love at last
It was no longer ME but WE
It was as if a burden
Had been lifted from my soul
And pleasing my sweet love
Became my life's eternal goal
If only we had known back then,
How lovely it could be
To share one's life and treasures
With each other, we would see
That life is so much richer, when
It's no longer 'me' but...'we'!

You must have had a wicked time
Just thinking of yourself
In my youth it was ball and chain
All work and nothing else
The teachers they were monsters
Could beat you up and more
Then if you dared to tell your dad
He’d knock you on the floor
Failure was a sin or crime
You had to do it right
Sometimes starving hungry
Would have to work all night
I wish I could have found some one
To help me in my plight
I learned most stuff the hard way
For good you have to fight
Look what being gentle
Has done to kids today
One wrong word they’re in a huff
Not getting their own way
Though yes it is a blessing
To share with one that’s kind
They are few and far between
Most now change their mind
Divorce is on the up and up
Folk think they should be free
I’ve tried marriage twice before
Next time will be three
They say the third times lucky
Who knows if you don’t try?
Then I hope too that WE is good
Right up until I die

surely understood here!

I've had my self time and now I am on the verge of being ready to let someone else in, but now I'm so set in my ways, I'm not sure anyone could handle me
