Because There Are Letters

Because by the fifth day
of the second month
of this year,
you will have been gone
one full swing of a year’s rotation,
of heavy loss ~ pain ~ grief

and the opposite ~

gratitude that you are not hurting
in the pull of a breath
that your lungs could not enjoy.

I prayed for your relief ~ release ~
freedom from pain.
I pray that you will not forget me.

I prayed that you could hold on, be well,
and yes, we garnered some small bit of hope
from a possible transplant
of another’s horrible fate…
and yes, I caved in to your decision.

I see you daily, then even in dreams,
playing your guitar, strumming those strings,
singing again in your voice
that came back to form and
then in heavenly sum
I see you

reconciled with all of your children,
because you went there, at the end,
shaking your silver haired head
at what went wrong…knowing
you would right it, given an opening.

I’ve searched for her, your first child…
she is out there, somewhere in the gray mist;
and I send ESP–aunt-like messages to
Heather, of love, roots, and some innate sense
to sense her history…

I continue to love you as if you were here
an I-M moment away, a click,

               here’s coffee,
               tell me of your day…

isn’t that the way it should be?

Because there are letters, I can write this for you.
Sing your song, Fagin ~ Robert.

For you turned to Him,
praised Him in the middle of time
before you knew,
then toward the end, apologized,
then gave others reason, and rhyme
to live, in between.

I love you, as if you can hear me, even now.

Oh look….there’s a hummingbird….

               Yes…Daddy loves them so….

And listen, Mom’s playing the Bumblebee song….

She’s in her own space, Sissie

And Grandmother…

               oh, she’s over there … dancing…

Always,

Sis.

Sister my heart cries with you,yet celebrates as well the beauty of the memories you two shared. There are no words of true comfort for such a loss, there is only the knowing one day you will share a new path with you beloved brother in a happy place of family gather!

The good....sometimes get time off for good behavior. Tears, yes, as almost everyone has said....but mine are more for you, left here to bear the loss. Yes, those are where I must spend my tears.

And why not? You've created a poem that captures both the grief and the joy of him, and that's worth anyone's tears.

To my mind, this is absolutely one of your best pieces of writing that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is rife with life ~ even tho' these loved ones have passed.

To be sure, they loved you ~ and continue to love you still. You are blessed to have had them in your life ~ and they, you!

I found this an exceptionally moving read. It also brought back fond memories of those whom I have lost as well. You have a glorious spirit, Dear One With Sun!

Darling Sunshine~~ you make him live again with your words, that we all know how wonderful he is, as he must be for he is a part of you. This is so very beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hi, Sunshine.

I'm moved beyond words, so I'll just say that I'm very sorry for your loss and very moved by your art.
