Doubt

Doubt is a mist
That clouds a mind
Casting shadows
Of apprehension
Across a soul
Wisps of confusion
Drape over certitude
And all that once
Was clear becomes
Confused

Doubt is insidious
Sneaking like a thief
Into a mind
Stealing sanity
And invading
Thoughts
With suspicion
Cloaking the soul
With sorrow

Doubt is invasive
Pushing out
Cohesive thought
Dowsing the light
Shading the eyes
With a film of tears
Misting the world
Through a fog
Of despair
And hopelessness

Doubt is a deceiver
It creeps into the crevices
Then darkens your mind
Blackening the view
With its innuendo
That seems all too
Probable and possible
To a heart caught
In its vice like grip
Of what might be

Doubt is real deception
Changing truth
Into lies
Constantly changing
The direction
Your mind
Loses its sense
And downward
In a spiral of sorrow
You spin in dejection

Cast out doubt
Defeat it with
The shield of
Truth, and love
And then blessed
Hope
Will shine
Once more

Marsha

Doubt has several brothers and sisters
Elvis found its cousin Suspicion
Distrust is a next of kin
Uncertainty is a distant uncle
and disbelief is like a mother's sin

and all of that which you've written
is certainly most true
yet I've no doubt, in the better term
that this is the best from you.

My word....doubt. It seems to pervade every aspect of my life now and I can't shed it, can't paint over it, can't....anything. Some day, maybe, maybe I will be free ot it. But I don't doubt one thing -- your words point the way, the direction I know I should go....and some day I will be there....some glorious day.

I don't that this is one of your better poems and knowing what inspired it I say again, "You underestimate yourself". you are clever and smart and so much more than TPO.
Love you forever.

I like the way you end this one.  Well, I like the way you start it and continue it too.  But I like the ending a lot.

"Doubt is a deceiver" ~~ how very true, but you see through that deception well, and it will not overtake you. Your ending says it all, Miss Marsha. Well done!

Nice writing...doubt must serve some usful purpose...sometimes their are good reasons to have suspicions or doubt.   Unless I'm wrong...but I doubt it...James

I loved the message in this poem. You seem to dwell a long time on doubt though - I think there might be more to gained from exploring how one conquers this foe, instead of wallowing in its darkness. Very nice piece.

It is indeed all these things... and it can turn beauty into nothing but tarnished memory so quickly... and erode happiness into heartbreak.

I agree with those who've said this is one of your best... Superb work!!

Amazing poem! It definately gave me inspiration to erase any negative thoughts in my mind. Keep 'em coming! Great wording, too. ;-)
