.

What will you do
            when shortened days
            and night's darkness
            hide the best hours?
What would you do
            without a hearth
            to sit and watch
            dancing flames?
Beyond the window
            the world - wrapped
            in virgin whiteness
            life goes on
Above the falling snow
           a silver sliver
           of a quarter moon
           sails dreamily through
           star-decked skies
           the night is alive -
Children's voices
           erupt in squeals of joy
           the battle is on -
           snowballs fly and victims fall
           leaving their angel imprints
           upon another winter night.

EnchantedLady~
It's delightful and I LOVE the format~

But ... I'm glad it's your snowball and not mine !!

Brrr ... watching a presentation right now about what that lovely snowfall does to our environment~

I just love watching kids TV !

Landy and I are snuggled up under our blankie on this chilly Florida afternoon~

Oh, Nancy, this poem has such a lovely feel to it. I love winter! (Actually, I love all four seasons!) You illustrate perfectly, the joys of winter in our neck of the woods!

A 'hearth'-warming write, Enchanting One!

Giving you an extra warm hug,

Linda

though I don't see much of it now, these lines
"Above the falling snow
           a silver sliver
           of a quarter moon
           sails dreamily through
           star-decked skies
           the night is alive -"

helped me hearken back to days of yore, simple days of childhood when we lived through seasons of snow...loved it then...love it now through your beautiful words...

My Lady...  the real question is what would I do without your "Kinkadesque" word-imagery?  Thank you for a very colorful visual.  I hope that hearth remains warm for a long time.  Good to read you again.
