I wish I had a dog to walk

I wish I had a dog to walk
or some excuse
but a dog would do
a dog to walk and I could name him
worthless or some other nonchalant
descriptor
walk my worthless and not see
these concretes like a wall laid down
to be a one-lane chessboard of
forever
dog and not think square and
concrete days
not care what my worthless would do
on certain days or not on
others
never if I coaxed
a dog then I could feel the sun
sometimes
all filtered by the breeze
the stray warm scents
and traffic sounds
I wish I had and I could name him
not pick up his kibbles nor
his drips
a wish and I could walk and when
he died I wouldn’t miss him
at least
not like now

You've tossed the symbols on the floor
But still can't joule the evermore.
Enjoyed the read.

I think you'd best
leash a cat...

for a dog would have
empathy
and nose the miseries away;

a dog would pounce
at butterflies
and crack a grin
at your lopsided look
at foolishness...

he would guide you
to a never-never lane
where concrete slabs
never existed.

Yes,
you'd best
leash a cat...

Oh, I've had days like yours.

Ed...

If I had a dog named Precious
I'd walk her til her name was Sniffer
and leave her nose in clumps of ivy
her sound of sniffing by the rose
then after filtering so much air
she'd take away my old despair
and bring me new back home

Ed,

It's great to read your poetry once again!  (Shucks, I wish I could read it more!)   There has never been a time I've read your poetry that your imagery hasn't evoked an emotional reaction from me.  You always land me into a pool of quandry!
Be well.

The last line, to me, was the main ingredient in this one. Very very touching write.

You made me laugh today, Ed..I needed that. I loved my afghan although I couldn't walk her ( she would walk me) I am tempted to get another but not sure I would be fair since I am never home anymore to spend time with a dog.

Ed darling man, ah you have such a way with words, always have and always will. You even made me miss my dog and she has been gone a long, long time. Although now of course I can’t walk very far so I couldn’t walk her.

Darling man you really do have an amazing talent, love the flow, it is simply divine. Sorry I’m not here more, but life always seems to get in the way. Well, university gets in the way, but if I ever wish to become a writer I have to finish the course so I am, but oh it is so much harder when they keep throwing Haiku at me. I have tried to steer them onto other forms but it isn’t working. C’est la vie, so until the next time I cheer myself up with a little bit of real poetic genius.

Love and warm stuff

This is fantastic.  Have you been taking lessons?  Would you give me some?  I absolutely love this one.  Name him worthless indeed.  And I have to admit Sunshine is right.  worthless would have you laughing at his antics, and he'd nose at you when you were down, and you wouldn't have to write poetry anymore.  I think dogs probably prevent poetry.

Well now, until I saw that you were going to call the dog worthless, I was going to let you have one of mine. But, my dog is not worthless. She is alot of company. And, she has a name. But, it isn't Worthless.

At first, I thought implosion... but that's inaccurate... You show us a slow, painful disintegration... where one keeps trying to keep the bricks in place but the walls fall anyway... and the greatest fear is that tomorrow will be exactly the same.

Absolutely fantastic!!!
