I saw you
on the evening news
You spoke enraged
but I heard pain
I saw you
in your Newman Days
raising up indelicate
a trembling (and white) clenched fist
remembering I called you this:

a princess

(sarcastically for emphasis)

born to better winds of fate
knowing as you shook your head
you'd heard it all before and scorned
a life so neatly mapped for you--

I owe you an apology.

Courage

wrapped in kindnesses
an etiquette of thoughtfulness

You have done much more than I
have ever dreamed of doing in
my lazy Walter Mitty dreams
starring as the heroine
in all my dumbass self-obsessed
work in progress
[edited]
angst and metaphorical
pretention posing in vignette
promising there's more to come
written in the font "regret"...
apologetics
"I forget"
I wish I were much more like you--

To quote our mayor: "I am tissed!"

I shake my head
"Elizabeth"
you never looked more beautiful
than on the podium in tears
(I know they didn't show that part)
the news won't show what doesn't fit
agenda of the politic:
ambivilant and so correct--

impartiality.

I pray for you, particular,
as I say my prayers for us.
I pray we not be bitterings
footnotes in the history

of these United States

a legendary domino
in some book a kid won't read
scribbled in the margins-

dreams

I don't think I'll even try
to speak such to reality
guided by
a floating eye
above a pyramid?

No.

But, perhaps, a fist that wished
to petal fingers opening
to "vee"
   just like
      an old hippy
tremblin' like Elizabeth
screaming so courageously

weeping on the tv screen

one more time

for "peace".

and um, no, she wasn't "tissed". Apparently the Mayor of New Orleans can scream "tissed" with a capital "P" on the evening news, and my friend can quote him on the evening news, but I can't quote her, quoting him, in a poem, in a family forum. Sorry Ron, but I found it a tad absurd. And yeah, yeah, I could have posted this in another forum. But no one cared about the march for domestic peace in New Orleans, (reported and posted nicely in discussion forum) and frankly, I want more people to know about it, and at least receive some acknowledgement that we are TRYING.

Now.

"Peace"

Couldn't sleep....so I surfed.  And, look what I found!  I watched them march....I watched Cooper tell all about it....and I am so glad he spent some time drawing attention once again to the violence.  Great poem, Ser.  Miss you.  No...this does not mean I'm going to be around here much....still terribly bogged down with work.  I'll be back when I can.  *smooches*

"the news won't show what doesn't fit
agenda of the politic..."

If not for poets, then who will shine lights on truth?

The "news" sells soap, that's all; it is not their duplicity nor incompetence but their self-righteousness that bugs the thit out of me.

Never surrender!

Your free verse is wonderful! You've caught up so much imagery and emotion in this peace that dripped from someone elses pen may come across as a rant but eased from your pen it becomes such beautiful poetry and a work of art unto itself. Wonderful work here and yes, I pray for peace also

Namaste~
May love bless your way.
The good and peace in me
greet the good and
peace in thee.

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

And I am getting tired, too
of all who are looking
for a view
of better and better
and still, won't yet...

make themselves a better day
and that, m'dear,
will be their own regret.

It IS up to US, isn't it?

Kari? I just wrote my admiration for an old friend. SHE reminded me of a time when I didn't ask for direction on what to feel, how to feel and when to feel it.

Now I'd like to thank you all for reading, and for those who noted (hoot owl, especially) that this was NOT a rant, but a frank self appraisal and, I suppose, a wake up call to the "me" in me.

"Elizabeth" was full of grace, and trust me, her vocabulary is not found wanting either.

Kari? I do love you m'friend, but there is no pithy answer to this one.

Thank you all kindly for reading--I only fear I lack proficiency in my writing if the point of "peace" was lost.

Enjoyed. Seems like I remember you writing about Elizabeth a couple years ago...Paul

I had a remark to make about the prevalent Pips Ozzie and Harriet syndrome, but shall refrain. But it tisses me that I must bite my tongue daily just to communicate in blue. Kudos to you for always coming close to 'real' descriptors.
I'm going to disappear for a while, after one more post, but you know I'll pop up again.

tremblin' like Elizabeth
screaming so courageously

weeping on the tv screen

one more time

for "peace".

I can understand how she'd never been more beautiful... for what she was showing was pure heart.

You do the same with this, my friend... and your heartfelt plea is just as beautiful.
