We're all on borrowed time
In this earthly vale of tears
Our lives will all be measured
By how we've lived thiese years
Were our hands outstretched to strangers
Who may have lost their way
Or were our hearts filled with prejudice
As we quickly turned away?

Were our words carefully chosen
So our children wouldn't hear
Profanity and bitterness
That might reach a tender ear
Did we take the time to praise them
While teaching the golden rule
Did we take responsibility
Or leave it to the school?

Did we honor our marriage vows
Keeping only to each other
Or were we quickly bored
And tarried with another
Were we there for our friends
In good times and in need
When tragedy struck
Did we intercede?

A man is measured not by wealth
But by the love he gave
That is the legacy
He will be taking to his grave
We're all on borrowed time
Of that there is no doubt
Let us make the most of it
Before the clock runs out!

Beatrice,
Now that's a hardy tardy to down in one swift gulp
But I liked the read so much I even downed
the pulp.

Sy, Sy, tell me why
Your posts always make me smile
Your wit, your charm, intrique me
I guess I just like your style
You're always a delight to read
And I like to linger awhile.

Mrs. Bea, I just wanted to say that I really loved this poem! Everything you said is all true! No one knows how much time we have here on earth! We really need to make the best of it, so when we stand before The Father He will say; WELL DONE, MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT, IN WHOM I AM VERY WELL PLEASED!
Great work Bea,
Stacey

I love poems that have great messages behind them. Thanks for the reminder that we all need to love a little harder!

Thanks Stacey...I just hope that when I'm standing at the pearly gates, St. Peter will remember my name and pass me right through!
