Struggles

the old man struggles...

every step is agony
needs help dressing, bathing
can't reach his rump.
Sleeps for four hours
till the pills wear off
awake till next set kicks in.

Gets winded, coughing
just bathroom and back
has to sit in the middle.
No air for shouting
no air for ignorance
disease has calmed him.

Days of yore haunt him
'members being young, strong
angry and full of pride.
Crazy man on a Harley
suicidal all the way
thought he was invincible.

the old man struggles...

every bone once upon broken
screaming, pounding waves
pain unexpected, undreamed.
Almost memorized the Book of Job
suffering is constant, multi-layered
"I am blessed" he says with a smile...

Dear Daniel, this is a deeply impressive poetic rendering of an old man's (and also an old woman's!) reality. How well you express this truth, that sums up a life, with its share of youth and aging ... and pain and ... how beautiful the final GRATITUDE for what IS.

Very intense write.
