In seven months he’s grown into
a fat and sleek and loving cat.
I’ve kept him from the snow and rain
and predators and woes like that.

A small grey kitty visits him
through sunroom glass door every day.
After she cleans her plate she stays
to bat at him as if to say

I know you have it nice and warm.
Your meal is a meow away.
I’d like to join you but I fear
all human kind, so I’m a stray.

I try my best to coax her in
that she might live in luxury too.
My slightest move sends her away
and there is nothing I can do.

Raccoons and possums come to call.
He watches as they find her dish.
Perhaps he’d like to join them there,
but I’m afraid to grant his wish.

In the big world, danger abounds.
I do my best to meet his needs.
So he can only sit and watch
the little grey cat as she feeds.

Joyce,

You are a wonderful storyteller and poet.  Also, your love of animals shines - this makes me smile and brings a tear too.  I want the little cat to trust you so you can care for it and love it.

Thank you for this poem.

This is very lovely and shows your cat-mom-heart, dear Joyce.

Does she show more courage and trust now?

Love,

Echoing wordancer's reply, perhaps in time Kitty-girl will learn that you are the wonderful cat-lover whom you are, Joyce.

Thank you for feeding Kitty-girl and trying to coax her in.  Thank you for keeping Cat-boy safe.  My priorities for my horse (before he went to Heaven) and all the cats and dogs I have ever had, were, in this order:

1. Safety
2. Health
3. Happiness

and Happiness is/was extreeeeemely important - it was just that Health was even more important and Safety even more important than Health.
