I must be in my second childhood,
I refuse to eat my beets
or anything that's good for me.
I consume forbidden sweets.
I even turn away from fruit
unless it is in a pie.
Apples encased in rich pastry
are truly for to die.
All the years my child protested
the piled vegetables on her plate
are coming back to haunt me
and to jeer at me of late.
It all started in December when
friends brought them to my door,
all the goodies that I shouldn't have
and then brought in some more.
Chocolate covered cherries
are a favorite of mine.
How many boxes did I get?
I think I counted nine.
They brought fruitcake and divinity,
cookies, cakes and fudge.
I should get up an exercise.
I don't think I can budge.

I've eaten my way through it
and it's time to start my diet.
The candy for Valentine's?
To be polite I have to try it.

Goodness gracious, dear Joyce, this is totally awesome ... you don't know, but word for word can be applied to me too!!

We must meet and have tea and feast!

... ok, for dinner I am now going to prepare the vegetables ... but later who will deny me a sweet praliné?

Enjoyed you so much here!

Love and hugs.

Thanks Betty and Margherita.  I guess I haven't been here enough lately.  The powers that be are challenging my password.  I hope I get in.  Joyce

This was wonderful, delightful, and all
too true! I wondered several months ago
that if being at home full time would
increase the inches around my waist.

Lucky me, I've been losing weight!

And that's while baking and cooking for others...

go...figure!!!

This poem is extremely fun.

I love it, it's got great pace and I can empathize!
