Just twenty-three, his life is done
before it had begun.
He thought himself invincible
and joined into the fun.

If only he could have been shown
the tears his mother cried
or the new lines on his daddy's face
in this first week since he died

Would he have take that first hit
just to party with his friends?
Too young and foolish to believe
how soon the party ends.

By his great-grandma

Dear Joyce,

Sometimes there are no words to offer.  I can only say that my heart goes out to you, his Great Grandma, his parents and all of your Great Grandson's family and friends.  Too often we think things can't happen to us -- and too often we are wrong.

I am here for you anytime - and I think of you with love.

Thank you all.  You are such an empathetic bunch.  He was a great guy and loving and kind, but somehow he got into this and it was too much. His final memorial was yesterday and we are in the healing process.   Love, Joyce

My words cannot adequately express the depth of sorrow that I am feeling over the senseless loss of your great-grandson.

May this at least be a deterrent for reckless behaviour for the young people who knew him. They are not invinvible and their behaviour affects those who love them.

Joyce, I truly am saddened by your news.

Sending love and healing Light to you and your family,

Love,

Linda

Oh my Joyce, you sure have had your share of sorrow.  I hate to hear of young people going this way, and it is so hard on the family.  God bless you all.

My dear friend,

I am the grandmother of six, the eldest being 17. I'm going to share this with them all, especially the elder ones, because they need to know how actions, consequences, ripple not only forward to shore, but backward from the beginning.

I know you understand well my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Not much can be said...so I truly hope you can imagine my hugs around your heart and soul, and know that I keep all of you in my prayers.

I sit with you.

Thank you to all who have read and responded.  Sunshine, I am glad you are sharing with your loved young ones.  That is his parents' greatest hope that somehow others will be saved from the same fate because he paid the price.  Love, Joyce

Ada, Understanding this. With six children,13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren  and their friends, I have seen it all. It is so hard for any  young person to get through this life without being tempted. Sometimes it only takes one  mistake. Best to you, latearrival

I'm sharing the link to this poem with a grandson, Joyce.  He's known HS students who've taken their lives and some who have died as a result of substance abuse. Although deeply saddened by the losses, he says it's their right to do as they wish with their lives.  Perhaps seeing your perspective, will improve his thinking.

God bless you and yours, and thank you for sharing your heart concerning this tragic loss.

Love,
Rae

Oh Rae.  Jesse didn't want to die.  He had great plans for his life.  He was planning to lick this and become a counselor to other young people.  It is the drug that takes over.  I don't understand your grandson's reasoning.  I heard my own son say something like that .  "Why do we outlaw it?  let them have it and the gain that drug dealers get by selling it would be gone and we wouldn't have all this crime."  But this happened to his grandson and I am sure if he was alive and seeing it he would change his mind.

Thank you for commenting.  Love, Joyce

Joyce,

I am just checking back in to tell you that I am thinking of you.  I took the liberty of printing out your poem and handing it off to a few friends of mine who have teenagers.

I wish I could do more.

Love,
Alison

I'm so sorry for your lose.

"  I heard my own son say something like that .  "Why do we outlaw it?  let them have it and the gain that drug dealers get by selling it would be gone and we wouldn't have all this crime."  "

personally I agree with his reasoning. The huge problem with illegal substances today are they are cut with many extremely poisonous chemicals and such, I'm only 20 and I take drugs, I don't abuse them. And I am extremely careful when I take them, I truely believe if the governments of the world legalised these illegal drugs they would be much safer to take.

I'm quite sure many of you have taken drugs at one point or another be it cannibis (marijuana) or even LSD etc etc. Even perscription drugs, many of those are extremely fatal if used incorrectly, the same rules apply to the illegal ones.

So please just take into consideration it is a personal choice weither or not to take these illegal substances and if used properly they can be a great help to the creative nature of the human race.

Dearest Joyce, I am sorry for your loss as well.  I had to go to a funeral 2 days ago.  It saddened me but knowing where he is now made me want to celebrate.  The kingdom of the Lord is a wonderful place to go.  Bless you and your family.

WRITE ME A SONG

If you can make a song out of what’s in my heart
Would you sing it to me while looking at me?
The intimacy of it all would make me feel special
I would think I was dyeing or going to heaven
The song would bring us closer together
As you would read my being, showing me who I was
Through the lyric of your Music.  Then I would take
The purity of my heart and put it into a song lyric
Just for you too.  That’s exactly what I want to do
Because I love you.

My heartfelt condolences to you Joyce, for losing your grandson.
It is sad that so many go this route, thinking they will not have to pay a consequence.
Hugs and wishes for strength to you and yours.

Dear (((((Joyce))))), your words are so charged with sorrow, yet also with warning, thank you for this. Too many do not realize what they are doing.

My heart goes out to you and to your great grandson's family.

Love,
Margherita
