I realize more and more,
as my years get closer to three score
I won't be around so long,
Now's the time to sing my songs!

But should I just go so sing a tune,
As good as it is--twill be silenced soon
I need to find a way to go on--
Lingering around after I am gone!

Besides the good that I have done,
That touched some lives, as I did run
Too soon too, they'll be forgotten,
And unknown, won't mean a  lot then!

The only way to immortalize,
myself more in other's eyes
is to write things from my heart,
that will stay, when I depart.

Poetry has served me well,
Expressing my joys and living hell
And though the sound of my voice will fade--
My written words will not escape.

So though Love is my Life's true force,
Once dead, it's gone, like me, of course
But I can still speak, as from the ground,
With my word inscribed around.

So the ink-stained sheets that are left,
And traces of me on the internet--
In the minds of others I will live on,
And perhaps in them--their own words spawn!

I thank the LORD everyday
He has given me something to say
And to share with others,
My Friends, my sisters, my brothers!

To God Be the Glory!

David,

I believe that when we touch others, that other person carries a piece of us in their heart.  Your poem has touched me - so I guess a small piece of David is now in my heart.

I love going to sleep with a poem in my head.  I tag yours to take with me now.

Goodnight and thank you.

Nice to find you here Deleme.  i agree we poets have a one up on others.  If we write enough and spread it around some of it will be here for a long time.  Our little bit of immorality.  Love to you, Joyce

Although my brother David passed away on 12-3-2010 his words live on here and may still be appreciated for all the warmth, humor and Godly messages they convey.  Thanks to all that read and reflect on his work.

May God bless ,
