"Mr. Washington", I asked him,
"How do you think we've done
With the country that you left us
When your worthy race was run?"
"I'm amazed," he said, "at progress
In two hundred years and plus,
In ways not the same country
You inherited from us.
I'm proud you've tried so hard to keep
The Constitution strong
And history's proven that we were
More often right than wrong".
I sighed and said,"We've failed some times."
He answered,"That is true,
But you have picked up the pieces
And kept on battling through.
If brave men don the mantle
And hold their standards high,
Then we signers will, in all truth, say
'It was worth the do or die'."
"Mr. President we thank you
For this heritage we prize
And we hope that our new leader finds
Approval in your eyes.
He is taking charge with dignity,
Sworn to give his very best.
May we give him time to prove himself
And pray that he is blest
With understanding of what's gone before
And insight in what's to be
And brings honor to this Nation
Our sweet 'Land of Liberty'."

Joyce - how true!  I can't wait to see what your new President becomes, as I have a lot of faith in him and the people surrounding him.  I think a lot of pride will rise up once more in your sweet 'Land of Liberty.'

I think you've caught the feelings of a lot of us with waiting to see what the new president becomes and accomplishes during his time in office.

Thank you for sharing this lovely piece

This is a tremendously written conversational piece Ms. Joyce!  I felt like I was truly there witnessing this "chat" between you and President Washington.  Thank you for taking your writing to a place many of us fear ~

In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday!
