Promise of the Rose

The climbing rose that looked so dead
All winter long, in April shed
Its dull, brown shade and turned to green,
While here and there, small leaves were seen
And later on, in June, each bloom,
Will flaunt its color and perfume!
The corner of the house, it claims
And sends red flowers, like small flames
Cascading from the roof to ground
And ever present is the sound
Of bees, who visit every day
And scatter pollen on their way.
Its color seems to catch the eye
Of people who are passing by.
Then when the season's done, I know
That even buried under snow,
The heart of it will surely thrive
Emerging in the spring, alive!

I'm happy your rose survived this winter.  My roses are starting to bloom too.  Pretty poem.  Joyce

This is so lovely.  I don't have domestic roses, but I do have lovely wild roses growing in the woods.  They are magnificant and in full bloom now.

Hi Betty,

In a way, your wise little piece is a reflection of life too, no?

Dear Joyce:

Thanks! I lost three rose bushes to the hard winter, but my favorite is still with us!
