Neptune Rising

I hear you rising from the sea.
Nature hails your majesty.
Savage winds and driving rain
Beat the waves, to form a chain
Ermine hued, of salty spray,
Stretching many miles away.
Up you rise, through water green,
With an opalescent sheen.
Upon the troubled surface, stand,
Trident in your mighty hand.
Horses, white as virgin snow,
Soon appear from depths below.
Gallop towards the distant shore,
Spurred on by your strident road!

Suddenly, the clouds are rent.
Sunlight storms their battlement
And drives them, ragged, from the sky.
Wind and rain begin to die
And you disappear from view.
Serenity does not suit you!
Down into some cavern where
Mermaids wait with floating hair.
There to sulk, impatiently,
For a storm to set you free.
Orcas roll and dolphins leap,
At your rumblings from the deep!
