I have often wondered what must be speeding through the mind of a wife & mother as she is about to lose the man she dedicated herself to. I hope the following captures in some small degree that uncertainty of what the future may hold
___________________________________________________

What have I done to displease you
Am I not still beautiful in your eyes
What happened to the fire we once had
Is it gone then, like the warmth I once saw
in those eyes I adored

Did I not give you a beautiful child,
conceived in love, made in your image
Does he displease you as well
So many thoughts burn inside my brain,
like acid on my flesh, destroying my will.

I am weary, my fading lover, tired to the core.
Fear grips me like a steel vice, growing tighter
with each passing day of silence; of your retreat,
into a world that does not include us, the ones
who love you most.

Can you not see that you are destroying us with your apathy
Do you now find your pleasure with another
What can I say, what can I do, to show you
the devastation, the pain, the terror, ripping me apart.
I fear the end is near for us my fading lover.

And I am afraid of the uncertain future.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

when passion dies, it does not die alone. i have read somewhere that over 50% of the marriages, today, will end in divorce. the lack of human compassion is tragic and results in some of the coldness. human warmth and kindness are more admirable traits. i feel sadness...interesting poem.

You have such a sensitive soul. This conveys such depth of from a spurned woman's point of view.  Joyce

pegasus:  Such an impressive read. You seem so attuned to the suffering described here!

AhPeggers~
And you have most certainly wondered rightly~

And, I think the same goes for the man
who is left behind in total bewilderment~

Hopefully she moves on to be stonger and finds someone who appreciates that love a thousand fold~

Same for the men to which it happens~
My heart goes out to them all~

Dear pegasus 111,

Not much read these days except by a handful of enterprising English professors who are seeking to add feminine voices to the Canon, the late 19th and early 20th Century poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox is gathering a small but devoted audience once again.  She was very traditional and used a somewhat more formal approach than I think you do here, but I think you might enjoy looking up some of her stuff for the pleasure of her
sensibility, which is deep and sentimental.  Let me know what you think if it's not too much trouble.  BobK.
