A Shorter Season

I don't see a hint of green
That in other years has been
Evident on shrub and tree,
With spring's advent soon to be.
No robins hopping on the lawn.
The banks of snow, not nearly gone.
The chorus that I usually hear
From early birds, is lost this year.
I wonder if, since it is late,
The usual crowd will congregate
To build their nests and fill the air
With busy travels everywhere,
To hunt for food and will they find
A shorter season not as kind?
Each day I look to see if I
Can glimpse some sign that spring is nigh!

BettyLou~

I wish you Spring
with all the joy that it will bring~
I wish you green upon the lawn
to greet you on the break of dawn~
I wish you Trillium in bloom so sweet
it will simply sweep you off your feet~

I wish you Spring~

Dear Marge:

Maybe all your good wishes will drive these snow clouds away. 10 inches of new snow last night!

The trilliums bloom every year in our woods and I always keep a bouquet of them in the dining room during the season. I joined PIP in April 6 or 7 years ago and I was trying to think of a password and my eyes settled on the bouquet and that was it!

Betty,

Your poetry draws me like the proverbial moth to a flame.  I think it calls to me.

I wonder the same things.  Our spring is not late, but it is a bit more biting cold.  I hope those Robins fly to you soon.

Hi Barb:  We have so much snow! 10 inches Friday and another 4 inches last night. We have beaten the record now for snow in any one winter. I guess I should be glad I was here to see it, do you think?

Betty Lou,

I am so sorry that I shortened your name in my previous post.  I don't like it when people mess with my name and I try not to do it to others.

And, yes, I am quite a fan of your poetry.

Alison:  The name bit is not a problem. I even answer to "Hey, Lady!"

enjoyed the poem...am sure the snow will soon pass and the joys of spring will surround you!...rain has been, our  problem, in missouri...much rain...much flooding! i have not experienced the floods, however...that is one of the fortunate aspects of living on high ground!

Yes, yes, it will come.  We had a bit of snow today but our robins are here in spite of it.  Love, Joyce

fromme2u:  We were still getting snow here up until 2 days ago. It has been partly sunny but they say another storm is headed in for tonight. Winter does not want to let go!

Dear Betty Lou

Your Spring did take a while in coming and only stayed for a short time before your summers arrival.  I pray that next year your Winter will be short to see a longer Spring!  I loved your poem!

Love Elizabeth (Betty Lou) xo
