                A Jay's Delight

Found an apple and took a bite.
Saw half a worm and did it right.
Turned the apple 'round and 'round.
        Then swallowed, another,
        half a worm down.

Sometimes you are too deep for me,
But this verse made me giggle.
I too have been confronted by
Those little things that wiggle.

I guess we may be more alike than I thought as this reminded me of something I posted in Corners in 05.

Here it is in all its glory.

I Don't Share

I had a yen for home grown peach.
I found but one that I could reach.
I picked and took a bite at once
To taste of its sweet succulence.

Extremely fat and fully fed
An earwig raised his ugly head
And looking me straight in the eye
Dared me that next sweet bite to try.

I very calmly took his dare,
Next time I looked he wasn't there.
No lowly insect shares my peach,
The only one that I can reach.

Joyce

joyce, enjoyed the sharing of the poem "i don't share". you are as sweet as the peach you described. i hope, you may have found some of my poetry to be confusing rather than "deep". i'm really a somewhat shallow person, using poetry as a cathartic experience to discover, self. when others ask questions about my poetry, it becomes an enabling process for me because i can begin to see myself through the mind's eye of others.

yes marge, the jay is interesting and beautiful but misunderstood...i have been intrigued by his aggressive tendencies
in food gathering...where he is often viewed as violent and greedy...but i see these as human aspects and not those of the jay. like you, i was amused by the persistence.
