       Beyond the Hallowed Ground

From this hallowed ground,
there is a story to be found
etched on pages of crafted stone
and when you hold the pieces
of this fragmented epic in your hand,
you will begin to feel a kindred
to an ancient man
that rested here.

His stone knives, hoes, scrapers and points
give evidence to his existence,
long before our time.
Thus, causing us to wonder, marvel and dream.

Will, I, in my time,
ever perfect and sharpen
such miraculous skill,
to carve an existence
from hardened pieces of stone.

Me thinks not!
Yet, he and I, as men of flesh and bone,
each, have crafted carpets of chromatic threads
capable of the pursuit of truth and knowledge
beyond the hallowed ground.

Eons from now
they'll know
you were alive.

When they unearth
the remains of wooo's
hard drive.

Etched into the silicon
it'll offer a view,

of the talanted poetry
of brother wooo.

that was an interesting poem you
wrote mr. wooo, once again I'd like
to be "invited" to peek between the
lines and be treated to one of your
ever facinating stories.

moon, the poem "the arrowhead", by trillium (09-16-2007 12:21am) stimulated the thought pattern that resulted in my poem "beyond the hallow ground". in 1971 a group of 10, i was one of the ten, purchased a square mile of wilderness for $53,000. that area became known as, wooo, an acronym for wilderness of our own. the locals, after several decades began referring to our place as "the wooo" and we were known as the "wooo boys". wooo was my safe haven for the next 33 years. wooo was my walden! after dr. rose died (8-9-04), i sold my interest in wooo. over the years i found many indian artifacts while wandering the plowed fields there and when i held the pieces of crafted stone in my hands, it was like magic...no...more like a vision! i was able to see this ancient man, the wooo, and in time i was consumed and i became the wooo! the father of wooo was a man known as two birds and his father was "vulturus", the vulture, and his mother was called the raven. in 1971, the true prince of frogs, a man called "toad", was "trace-formed" into r v wooo.

moon, enjoyed your response to the poem. possibly by reading between the lines you will discover a "key" to toad's feelings of inferiority and his fear of being a "zero". twenty years from now, he will be totally forgotten. just like "r van winkle".

wow, wooo your "between the lines, rest of
the story" are every bit as facinating as your poems.
" possibly by reading between the lines you will discover a "key" to toad's feelings of inferiority and his fear of being a "zero". twenty years from now, he will be totally forgotten. just like "r van winkle".

I would think that the key to  toad's feelings of inferiority are the same as everyone's..I like to call it "The seperation blues" and I think its something we all suffer from.
Anyway, thanks for taking me, once again, "between the lines."

r v wooo:  I really enjoyed your poem and also the story of the "wooo boys."  I certainly agree that there is a feeling of magic in the artifacts we find from a previous life time. Sometimes, it is almost a "presence." I lived in a ghost town in Nevada's high desert country for nearly 6 years and I most definitely felt it there.
We were near the old Applegate Trail of pioneer days and also near a spring where the Paiute Indians had camped for many generations. It was a moving experience.

Best wishes

thank you trillium for sharing your experience...it is interesting to feel we have common threads of understanding and appreciation of those that have lived in the past.
