               Silence of the Lambs

Cold, as the winter nite.
Endless, as a snow covered plain.
Stretching, to a distant horizon
with no boundary in site.

Chilling, as the Northwest Wind.
Howling, across this endless expanse.
Cutting,
as the voices of the hounds begin.

Soldiers are they,
one and all,
as they answer
to the barking bugler's call.

Marching,
marching off to war!
These children of Freedom!
Oh, dare we ask the question!

Where have all the children gone,
in a world where no child is left behind?

every day i see them line up...usually in four lines of ten...they look so young but maybe that is because i have grown old and see people differently...every day there are new groups arriving. lambert has become a central distribution point. regardless of the season, it is like the gathering of the spring lambs in winter. these children, however, are being groomed for war. i only hope they are being prepared for what they will have to face. otherwise, their journey, like that of the spring lambs in winter, will end in a deafening silence.

w...has given us a war economy...we are consumers feeding off of the world's energy resources. w... has also given us the "no child left behind act"...my concern is the rate at which the war is consuming the nation's children!...one day, i can foresee us as a nation without children. thus, when the brightest of our sons and daughters are sacrificed to war, the nation's future becomes very, very dim indeed!...russia is already experiencing a dim future from the loss of its children. tho, the "cause" is somewhat different.

wow!!! thanks for the insight into your poem wooo. At first I thought you were referring to some third world country in Africa or South America....but now I see your point about "the children", very profound.

             thanks....moon.
