(wooo's green woman reminded me of my little grandma who refused to give up her pipe.)

Grandma's Sin

My mama and her sisters
Abhorred my grandma's pipe.
They said it smelled and to be fair
It truly was quite ripe.

She hid it in her apron
For fear of scorn from them,
Accounting for the burn-marks
From bib-top to the hem.

My big brothers abetted her
By buying a new can
Of Prince Albert when she ran out,
Despite our mother's ban.

I doubt that God has censored her
For this one and only vice,
Though Mama and her sisters
Thought it crude and not too nice.

Dear Joyce:

Great poem about your grandma. I remember as a young child seeing a couple of elderly women who smoked a pipe and I must say I did look at them askance!  I grew more tolerant with age!!
