Passage of the Hours

Sometimes, the passage of the hours
Brings us thoughts, like lovely flowers,
That blossom slowly in our mind
With pictured things we left behind
And not just things, but people too.
Some of the fun pastimes we'd do.
Like those bonfires by the lake.
The hot dog fixings we would take.
The swims beneath a moon so bright
It gilded everything in sight.
The hikes into the hills so high,
Like sentinels against the sky.
When at the top, we'd stand and view
The country we'd just traveled through.
The family gatherings were fun.
The weddings of each girl or son.
Skiing, camping, golfing and more.
Christmas fetes and the things we wore
For costume contests Halloween.
What happy times they all have been
And there's still space within my heart,
For those events I've yet to start!

It's great to stop now and then to think of the great things in our lives.  And to have hope for more to come. I had fun reading your poem.  joyce

loved the stimulating recall brought forth by your poem...autumn is my favorite time of year, to be outdoors, but the solitude i find in winter is also pleasant while resting and dreaming, in my chair, just to the right of the fireplace. splitting wood is my passion but i love the warmth of a log fire even in autumn, too. enjoyed your poem!

trillium, just realized i experienced a senior moment...seems they are becoming more frequent these days...had just finished reading "passage of the hours" and "colorful changes"...the thoughts of the two poems were running through my mind and I thought i was responding to joyce regarding autumn and winter but was also responding to the idea of rememberance brought forth in your poem.

we all succumb to nostalgic moments dear friend. Most are pleasant thoughts, some not so pleasant. This is a fun piece.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost
