               The Green Woman's Cat

"Whereforth cometh thou, ewe?
Be you the one they call Toad?"

"I know not, the ewe of whom you speak,
but Toad I be! now and forever!
Let me place a sword by my side
and upon my head a hat.
As you can plainly see,
I'm not a ewe or toad! but the Green Woman's cat!

She dressed me in fine silks and satins
while speaking to me in Greek and Latin,
then stuck a feather in my hat!
Oh, how I love being the Green Woman's cat."

I like it too wooo.  I thought I had answered you.  The green woman and her cat must have wandered away from Beasley's pack of ghouls.  Love, Joyce

moon, joyce and barb, i am happy you enjoyed "the green woman's cat". the green woman's name was "mattie". she was freed from slavery when she was six years old and died in the '50s when she was nearly a 100. i first seen mattie, through my grandmother's witchen kindow, when i was about six. she would be walking down the alley, yelling, "here come da green woman... here come da green woman". this experience was very frightening to me as a small boy because she was brown in color but was yelling that she was the green woman. later i discovered the basket she carried contained wild greens that she had picked along the train tracks and she would sell the greens to the neighbors. in time i grew to love her as we would sit on her porch and she would share stories about her childhood. i was also intrigued by her rough wrinkled skin and the corncob pipe she smoked.

Oh I am so glad to hear the story of the green woman.  I didn't think of that  explanation for her name. Perhaps she helped to kindle your imagination that shows in your poetry.  Very good.  Love, Joyce

moon, in my mind, you have evolved from dog to moon. the adjustment from left to right did not take this "old dog" long to correct. life could not be complete without "flashbacks" and corrections. my first "fashback" occurred in '61 or '62 when toad returned "back to frogdom". my last correction occurred only moments ago.

yes moon, let me take you there, to the "flashback"! try 08-12-2007 09:08pm. this will direct us to the same page. from  the poem, "back to frogdom" we find toad returning to reality, with help from dr. rose and louise. the mayonnaise was a special arvard blend...vintage '61 or '62. the reference to the correction made "just moments ago" was in reference to a typo correction.
