Men of Trees

The Druids were the men of trees.
Revering them and making pleas
To ancient spirits of the oak,
Whom they believed sometimes awoke
To tell them secrets of the wood.
Through this fellowship they could
Understand the growing things,
Read the stars and hear the wings
Of passing birds, news from afar,
Where other sacred oak groves are.
They saw such beauty all around.
Interpreted each slightest sound.
They realized the value of
The natural world they grew to love.

I like this a lot.  It is interesting, but I really enjoyed reading it too as the words just rolled off my tongue so easily.

Dear Joyce:

Thanks. I have been reading about Druids lately, as I wrote a poem on them to go with a piece of artwork, my son had made.
Decided to write two and post one.

Dear Barb:

Thanks much! I have been reading a lot about Druids lately.  My son made some decorative panels of trees and wanted poetry to go with them. I started writing and decided to get it out of my system and it took several before I quit!

Love

Interesting people, the Druids. Nice piece as usual.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

trees are so precious for they and plants alike are literally the air we breath.... from tiny acorn to  mighty oak... without trees we would surely croak.

Oh if only man was still as wise as the trees

lightkeeper:  I agree! We could learn so much from nature, if we only would make the effort.
