A Man in a Mall

Lingering – loitering
   biding his time -
A man in a shopping mall
   withers sublime.

A prison at least
   would offer more ration
   than a sad moment spent
   midst such over-hyped fashion.

Yet patience is practiced
   and noble resolve
   as the wife will insist
   he become more evolved.

So he carries the baggage
   and smiles as he can
   and while minutes take hours
   he copes and he plans.

But it’s so hard to plot
when there’s no place to sit
   and wherever he turns
he’s about to get hit -

By some obnoxious teen
   or oblivious dame
it’s not been a half hour
   and he’s going insane.

Such tedious torture
   just let the axe fall
   and sing a requiem for
a man in a mall.

This is very entertaining, John! And as one who despises shopping, even when necessary, I can totally relate!

I enjoyed your poem and your man in the mall is most definitely not alone! My husband is not only there with him, he is waiting in the car!
