The Squirrel’s Lament

“Look, lady, these nuts are alright,
But I’m just eatin’ ‘em to be polite.
Peanuts, lady, it’s just common sense,
Them things are for the elfadents.
So like I said, when ya go to the store,
Cashew get almonds like ya did before?”

This is adorable Barb.  We were thinking along the same lines at the same time this morning.  Love, Joyce

Hi Joyce,
I wrote that poem in 1993 and I happened to have found a copy this morning. I used to go to a produce market and buy nuts for the squirrels. One day I found heart shaped cookies 4 boxes for $1 the day after Valentine's Day. So all of the squirrels were carrying heart shaped cookies around the mobile home park.

Dear Barb:

I had to laugh as we just put out a can of cashews for the squirrels this morning, as they were getting a little stale. They do seem to be eating them, but I haven't listened for any comments!

This is so cute!

a cute lil' tidbit. took me 3 years to discover a way to keep them out of the bird feeder!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

lovely poem...i'm fond of the little critters...many,many years ago my grandpa had one that would shake the screen door when he wanted fed. when i went away to school back in the '50's, i was befriended by a female squirrel that would sit on my lap and take english walnuts from my shirt pocket. i hated the day i graduated because i had to leave her behind. a year later, when i returned to the campus, i went to the apartment where i had lived and call to her and to my suprise she came to me.
