A Dog Day

It was my grandpa's birthday and
The cake my grandma made was grand.
Four tiers high and decorated.
Oh, how we anticipated
Sinking our forks into each slice.
The thought of it was very nice.
Our being young, cake meant a treat.
Something we would not often eat.
Out to the porch she carried it.
There in such splendor it did sit,
Just waiting for the big surprise,
When brought before our grandpa's eyes.
But there was one thing she forgot.
That her dog, Buster, slept a lot
There on the porch, beneath the shelf.
When she was gone, he helped himself!

A tragedy that is only humorous from this distance.  I am sure there were some tears shed.  Well done and glad to see some new postings.  Love, Joyce

BettyLou~
That rascal Buster busted up Grandpa's birthday cake ?
Shame shame on him~

This is adorable ... and you should have seen my two brand new puppies dragging a New York strip steak between themselves to get it to their chewing spot, when I sat it on a low table and ran to the kitchen to get something !!!!

The steak was almost bigger than the two of them and they kept tripping over themselves~

Thanks for the memory bell-ringer~

This is so cute and typical! One of our dogs ate all of the Christmas cookies one year.
Again, wonderfully done!
Love, Barb

Dear Joyce:  Thanks.  We children were far more disappointed than any of the adults! We didn't get treats like cake very often!

Dear Marge:

Glad to see your comment as i have been wondering how you might have been affected by the most recent hurricane!

That must have been so cute watching those puppies with the big steak. Hope you got some pictures!

Dear Barb:  Nice to see you here today! I guess all of us have had pets who did away with something we planned on eating, at one time or another. I remember a golden retriever puppy who ate 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies that were spread out to cool! I thought sure it would kill him, but fortunately he survived! The bill nearly killed me though!

Yep, I am happy to be reading ... we had a horse when I was little.  He came into the kitchen .. and ate the center out of my Mom's pumpkin pies that were cooling on the counter.  This poem reminded me of that story.

Thank you.
