The Blushing Bush

Beyond the rim, the canyon falls
To shadowed depths, past rocky walls.
There are some trails that lead you to
Spots where you can enjoy the view.
But it is so immense and wide,
For most of it you need a guide.
It is a world unto itself,
Where history calls from every shelf
Of ancient stone and colors flair
In each sunrise and sunset there.

A river courses down below.
Some people ride the varied flow
Of raging rapids, to serene
Drifts of slow water, in between.
The Indian people, long ago
Who lived here and still do, although,
In smaller numbers than before,
Reside down near the canyon floor.
They hunt and gather, much the way
Ancestors did in yesterday.
There is a point called Navajo,
Where brilliant, Blushing Bushes grow
In one last fling, before the fall
Succumbs to winter's icy pall!

LOL When I saw the title, I thought it must be the President! It's a beautiful poem "you don't beat around the bush" when it come to poetry and you have something to say. Excellent piece!

This is superb.Truly a beautiful piece.  Does the bush have another name?  Might it be the same as burning bush?  I have two of them (euonymus).  But my diligent gardeners cut them way back before they had time to do their stuff.  Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:  I believe this is the same thing as "burning bush".  Some people have this name for it however. I'm so sorry for what happened to your yard. I have two burning bush in mine and we do enjoy them!
Thanks for your great comments.

Love
