October

October's here, it's plain to see.
Her colors flaunt from every tree.
Red and orange, brown and gold.
Now the nights are crisp and cold.
Sagebrush scents the autumn air.
Flocks of birds flit here and there.
Late last night as I lay in bed
I heard wild geese pass overhead.
Animals, with wisdom great,
Know their time is getting late,
So they shake their sleepy heads
And look for cozy winter beds.
Hunters come from far and near,
Just to stalk the graceful deer.
Others wander hill and dale,
Seeking out the grouse and quail.
When you've been outside awhile,
Cocoa warms you like a smile!
I love this month that lies between
September's end and Halloween!

DearLady~

You penned the month that I like best
In second place is May
The opposite of the things in bud
October sheds her beauteous display~

I love it when October falls gently from the inking well of a fine poetess, such as you are~

You delight me with your immaculate rhyme~

Dear Marge:

This is my favorite time of year also. I would be happy if autumn was a permanent condition! I do like spring next best, but there is something about the fall, that captures my heart.  Thanks for your sweet comments.

Songbird:  I have always lived where there were four seasons, so I don't know what it would be like not to experience the magic of each one!  Thanks.

I love October too.  Especially this year it has been so warm.  I hope every bird and animal hides from the hunters.  Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:  Thanks!  We have a lot of hunters in our area now, being so close to the national forest.  We have a prayer we say everytime we see one go by and it's not to their advantage!!

wow i acually don't like fall but this poem made me understand the season as a way to put it. it had a beautiful flow. i'd have to say fall is one of the most beautiful seasons to me until the trees undress their leaves.

hunnie:  Thanks for your remarks and I agree that fall is not much fun, when all the leaves are gone!

Lovely. One of my favorite times of year (except for the suddenly cold snaps)

When I was very young, I used to call that very bright blue autumn sky "October sky blue".
