Cedar Creek Mill

Beside the stream, the old grist mill,
With weathered walls, but sturdy still,
Holds such great memories in store,
That I would like to go explore.
The building's faded shades of brown.
From a high window, looking down,
I almost think that I can hear
The groaning of a grinding gear.
It's here the grain was slowly ground,
Accompanied by water sound.
A large flume carried it along
To generate this pleasant song.

It's had a busy life in past.
Though years of bounty didn't last.
It's been a place to entertain,
As well as bringing loads of grain.
Or corn for meal, it ground as well.
Oh, what stories it could tell!
The dances held here brought delight.
They lasted far into the night.
Summer picnics, celebrations,
Filled this building with vibrations!
More than a century it has stood.
Romantic building made of wood.
A covered bridge, with its own flair,
On country road, will lead you there!

Dear Joyce:

Thanks!  This mill has been preserved and is located near Vancouver, WA.  It still has a fairly active life, at least for scocial events, and at this time of year, they do grind apples for cider!

Love
Betty Lou
