They dont understand
How profoundly
Being the product
Of a teenage pregnancy
Has affected me
My morals
My descisions
Every day are affected by it

I'm glad my grandparents took me in
Gave me the life my mother couldn't have
But must they imply
I'll make the same mistakes?
I'm not her
But when they look at me
It's like they see my mother's teenage face

God, give me a life
That is truly mine
Not so defined by mistakes
So long left behind
